The utility ran prepaid vending on one system, meter data collection on another, and reconciliation in spreadsheets. Every month end, exceptions were resolved manually across three teams, and customers waited for tokens that had been paid for but not issued.

We consolidated the flow into a single billing engine: meter reads land in MDM, the tariff engine prices them, and the vending service issues tokens against the same ledger that finance reconciles. Mobile payment adapters sit in front of the banks and wallets the utility already uses, so no customer had to change habit.

The migration ran in parallel for two billing cycles. Once both cycles reconciled, the legacy vending service was retired and branch staff were retrained on the exception queue rather than the workaround scripts they had built over the years.
